The lac bangles are entirely handmade and require a great deal of patience. Bangle making is household activity in the villages of Bihar. Sita Devi started making these traditional lac bangles in her teen age. Glittering bangles are made from lac, a resin like substance derived from trees.

Lac, while heating, becomes very ductile and can be given any shape. Bangle maker Sita devi presses the lac stick against a rotating woodenware to shape the bangle. After shaping, decorations are done with pieces of glittering mirrors and painted stripes. Sita Devi intricately designs, colorful lac bangles which are extremely popular among women, she also received a state award for her brilliant handmade bangles.
